SEP Turkey Hunutlu Power Plant Logistics Maiden Voyage Begins
On August 25, 2019, the sea wind was blowing while the sun was shining brightly. At 8:30 a.m., gun salutes were fired and ships whistled at Luojing Port of Shanghai, marking the official launch of maiden voyage for the 2×660 MW SEP Turkey Hunutlu Thermal Power Plant Project logistics, which indicated that the project entered the acceleration period of the engineering construction.
At the launch ceremony of the maiden voyage, SEP Chairman Wang Yundan said that Hunutlu Thermal Power Plant Project is a key project under the Belt and Road Initiative and Turkey's Middle Corridor plan, the largest direct investment project carried out by Chinese enterprise in Turkey since the two countries established diplomatic ties, and also the first coal-fired power project using imported coal invested by Chinese enterprise in Turkey. The smooth implementation of the project has a great significance for the energy cooperation between China and Turkey as well as the operation and development of the project investors and various companies participating in the project construction. Going forward, under the powerful support of various shareholders and construction companies, the project team will pool the wisdom and strength of all the related parties, stay true to the original aspirations, keep the mission in mind, construct the project into a clean, efficient, reliable and beautiful world-class power plant, and create a crown jewel of the power industry around the Mediterranean Sea through first-class management, construction and technological innovation while ensuring safety, quality and construction period.
The 2×660 MW Turkey Hunutlu Thermal Power Plant Project is invested and constructed by EMBA Electricity Production Inc. (EMBA), controlled by SEP jointly with AVIC-INTL Project Engineering Company and Turkish natural person shareholders, with a total investment of around USD 1.7 billion. Adjoining to the Mediterranean Sea, the project is located in Yumurtalik county, Adana province in Turkey, and involves two 660 MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired power generation units, and flue gas desulphurization and SCR denitration systems will be constructed in the meantime, with emissions superior to EU standard and that for gas turbines. The project financing is arranged by a bank consortium led by China Development Bank with an innovative financing method of revolving standby letter of credit, and Sinosure will provide the insurance. The main equipment and main auxiliary equipment of the project are made in China, with the supply rate of domestic equipment more than 90 percent. The project realized a comprehensive "going global" including Chinese planning, designing, standards, equipment, technologies, management and services, driving the export of Chinese capacity. With the consortium composed of AVIC-INTL Project Engineering Company and CPI Power Engineering Company Ltd. (CPIPEC) as the EPC contractor, the project started the site preparation in July 2018, has finished the relevant work, and is expected to complete construction and achieve commercial operation in 2022.
SEP, the controlling shareholder of the project, is a major listed company of SPIC, a Fortune Global 500 company, and is also a main comprehensive energy supplier and service provider in Shanghai. Sinotrans, the logistics contractor of the project, is the strongest comprehensive logistics service provider in China, which boasts more than 60 years of project management experience, advanced marine resources and other equipment and facilities, professional staff team as well as 60 overseas offices covering the Belt and Road countries and regions.
